Babies Room 6 months-2 years Old
At Hothlyn Drive Children’s Centre, our Babies Room Curriculum is thoughtfully designed to provide a nurturing and stimulating environment for our youngest learners, aged 6 months to 2 years. We recognize that this is a critical period for growth and development, and our curriculum focuses on fostering emotional, social, cognitive, and physical development through play-based and sensory experiences.

Sensory Exploration
We emphasize the importance of sensory play in our curriculum, providing various hands-on experiences that engage babies' senses. Activities such as water play, tactile sensory bins, and exposure to different textures, sounds, and colors promote cognitive development and fine motor skills. Through sensory exploration, babies learn to make connections with the world around them, enhancing their understanding and curiosity.
Responsive Caregiving
Our approach to caregiving focuses on building secure attachments between educators and babies. By being attentive to each child's individual cues and needs, our educators create a nurturing environment where infants feel safe and valued. This responsive interaction fosters emotional security and helps babies develop trust, laying the groundwork for healthy relationships as they grow.

Routine and Structure
A consistent daily routine is integral to our Babies Room Curriculum, providing a predictable environment that helps babies feel secure. We incorporate regular schedules for meals, naps, and playtime, allowing infants to understand the flow of their day. This structure promotes a sense of belonging and helps babies develop self-regulation skills as they learn to anticipate and adapt to various activities throughout their day.
Language Development and Social Interaction:
Our curriculum fosters early language skills and social interaction through engaging, interactive experiences. Educators actively converse with babies, using simple words, singing songs, and reading interactive stories to create a rich language environment. This exposure not only stimulates vocabulary growth but also encourages communication skills. Additionally, group activities provide opportunities for babies to interact with peers, promoting sharing, turn-taking, and collaborative play. These interactions enhance emotional intelligence as babies learn to navigate relationships and understand the feelings of others, setting a strong foundation for effective communication and social skills as they grow.

Family Involvement:
Family involvement is essential to our approach in the Babies Room. We encourage parents and caregivers to actively participate in various activities, such as parent-child play sessions and cultural family days. Families are invited to share their traditions, stories, and languages, enriching the learning environment.
We prioritize open communication through regular updates, newsletters, and informal chats during drop-off and pick-up times. This ensures families are informed about their child's progress and can share insights. By fostering strong home-school connections, we empower families to be active participants in their child's development, enhancing their language and social skills.
